Dear Students, Parents, Community Member and Colleagues,
For the last twelve years I have had the pleasure of serving youth in Minnesota at Northwest Passage High School, the last seven as Director. In those years I have been part of a committed team of passionate educators providing some of the most innovative learning for the students we serve.
I have grown as an educator and feel that I have learned more from students and their families than the learning I have imparted to them. It truly has been an incredible place to work. Yet, all great experiences come to an end, and the time has come for my family and me to begin a new adventure. Today I am announcing my resignation as Director of Northwest Passage High School. Effective January 10, Peter Wieczorek will be elevated to the position of Interim Director of NWPHS. I will continue on in an advisory role until February 29th, 2012.
Peter will lead a transition team looking toward the future and developing plans for NWPHS to continue to grow and prosper. I have every belief that under his leadership and help from NWPHS’s experienced staff that the school will continue to be innovative and on the cutting edge of progressive education.
In Mid-April I begin a new adventure half way across the globe in the Mideast. I accepted an International Administrative position as the Head of Academic Affairs at the Qatar Leadership Academy (QLA). QLA is an all boys 7-12 grade boarding school located in Al Khor, Qatar. Sponsored by the Qatar Foundation, they are seeking to transform into an Expeditionary Learning School by increasing Outward Bound-like expeditions and experiential learning classes.
I want to express my gratitude for the support that you have given NWPHS and me while I was Director. I wish you well in all your endeavors, and who knows when our paths may cross again. I leave you with a quote from Mark Twain,
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
I wish for you a life full of adventure!
Former Director of NWPHS
