Today we met a small woman with a big story. Her name was Chrona and she was a Guatemalan who lived through their civil war. When their country broke out in turmoil she was caught in the middle of it. Her husband worked in the land distribution part of the parish and the government military was suspicious of him and threatened him. One day he disappeared and was never heard of again. Chrona decided to help others. She heard of two families that were almost completely wiped out from the military. There was 11 children that needed somewhere safe to live so she risked her life to go get the children and bring them to San Lucas. Every single child was brought safely to San Lucas and grew up.
I've read stories about people that have gone through this kind of stuff but Chrona was the first person that I've met in real life that suffered through something like that and overcome it. Her story was very humbling and inspiring. It really makes me glad to be able to support an organization that helps people like Chrona. Guatemala has been one life lesson after another and I'm glad I have this awesome group to share this experience with.
Sincerely, Amanda and the Guatemala Crew.
